Pace of Play Policy PDF Print E-mail

Pace of Play Policy

Allotted Time: Each group is allotted a specified amount of time to complete play of 18 holes at a pace in accordance with the time par matrix chart below.  When a group falls behind – regardless of the reason – it must regain its position. Time for ball searches, use of rule 3-3, and walking time between holes is included in the allotted time. When a group finishes and replaces the flag in the hole at its 9th, 14th and 18th putting greens, a ranger will record the time for the group.

Definition of Out of Position: (StarterÙs time will be recorded for each group.)

First or Lead Group: The first group is out of position if at anytime during the round the group completes play on a hole (replaces flagstick) later than the time scheduled on the time chart.

Following Groups: A following group is out of position if it:

a.       Has taken longer than the allotted time to play and

b.      Completes play on its 18th hole more than 15 minutes after the preceding group.

Non-responsive fellow competitor: Any player concerned about a non-responsive fellow competitor should notify a ranger about the problem and request the group be monitored in case penalties are incurred and appealed. If any playerÙs pace or quality of play is affecting the entire field, he may be asked to leave the course. The Tournament Committee reserves the right to impose individual undue delay/slow play penalties if appropriate.

Penalty Statements:

a.       A group that is not out of position at the Completion of 18 holes incurs no penalty under this policy.

1.       If the group was out of position after 18 holes two penalty strokes are incurred.

c.       If any player or group is deliberately violating this policy, this will be considered a serious breach of etiquette, subjecting the player or group to disqualification under Rule 33-7.

Appeals: Before returning his scorecard, a player may appeal group pace of play penalties to The Tournament Committee. An appeal will only be considered if:

a.       The Tournament Committee or a ranger delayed the player.

b.      The player was delayed by a circumstance beyond the control of the player or the group.

c.       The player was delayed by another player in the group and had reported it to a ranger.
